Ok just so everyone knows I just got the whole clutch system re done. Clutch disk, flywheel, pressure plate, slave and

master cylinder. Now for the problem, everyone knows what it sounds like when u try to shift the car into too low of a gear

at a higher speed. It makes like that grinding sound. Well when I am switching from 1st to 2nd gear if I go anything over 3k

rpms it makes that grinding sound. 2nd is the only gear that it does it in, it always goes into gear just makes that sound and

its annoying and I would just like to know what it means or is.

I'm going to guess it's the synchros going out, and that Red Line oil will possibly make it go away for a while.

I'll also say that this has been discussed before, and politely mention that you can read all about it using the search feature, before somebody takes your head off telling you to search.

ok, so searched and all that fun stuff and if they syncros are going out, the common problem for 2nd gear in our cars, do

you think it is a coincidence that it just started happening after the new clutch install was done? Or possibly just my luck...

Perhaps the new clutch is a bit heavier and makes the synchro's job a little harder?

I had the same problem with my 99 tib... at like 100,000 miles it started making a grinding noise getting into second then at 110,000 i could not get it into first or second gear at all and a couple days later my tranny blew up lol. Get some redline MT-90 oil that stuff works like wonders. I had royal purple in when my tranny blew up so im never going to put that in again. The tranny blew up not even 1000 miles since I put in my ACt 6 puc. After it blew up I got a new tranny and put a act street disc in and has been good since.

this probably sounds like a dumb question, but i havent had this problem with any other manuals, but is there like a shift lock or something that keeps you from down shifting into first when your going over like 10 mph, because my tib wont let me put it in 1st unless im at or near a full stop, although every once in a while i can put it in gear? no other manual i have ever had a problem with this, and have only accidentally put the car in 1st while moving, and both times were over 30 mph

If it were a BMW it would let you blow up the transmission doing it on the highway, the syncros are that good. I heard a 1st-hand account of this happening.

It's that the thing can't keep up with itself at high speed. AFAIK older dodge neons do it too.

RPM matching keeps the syncros happy.

Good article on syncros and gear grinding.
