You win. Short tube intakes are NOT cold air intakes unless there is a hood scoop getting them cold air. Unless you've never opened your hood before after the car's run for a while, common sense tells you that a short tube will give the engine HOT HOT air.This may sound dumb but how does that help the engine take in cooler air?

BUT it is WAAAAY less restrictive than a stock intake, and stock paper filter. Thus the power increase. The engine isn't trying as hard just to breathe.
Now imagine what you'd get with a TRUE CAI...

OK, don't you HAVE to have the IAC connected to the intake AFTER the MAF? The IAC pulls in air at idle when the butterfly is closed therefore the MAF still reads air being pulled in and adjusts the A/F even at idle, correct? If the MAF reads NO air being blown by, because the IAC is disconnected, then won't that screw up the whole A/F mixture at idle?

He is MAP not MAF. That setup will work just fine for him.
True, a short ram is not as nice as a true cold air intake, but that setup should work okay.

You may notice some oil drippage from the filter on the valve cover breather hose. At low RPM that hose sucks in. At high RPM, it blows out hot oil misted air. It is nothing serious to worry about, but it will dirty up your engine bay rather quickly.
As Suprgtrs_man suggested, a civic intake has the proper hose connections eliminating that problem. The idle should not be a problem, as you will never see cold temps where you live.

Thanks for the info Random, there was a sensor in the old air box, is that the air temp sensor? cuz i taped it to a hose, is that ok or should i find a way to put it back into the pipe?

Yes, that was the IAT sensor. You should find a way to put it into the intake pipe you have. (drill a hole and put the stock grommet in the hole, then put the IAT into the gromet/hole)
