That's what Ive read on here is that people soak them in atf before install. Im guessing it helps clean them out or something. Guessing I will give that a try before reinstalling them and maybe it will get rid of that annoying "lifter" tick. But what puzzles me is how the hla's decided to blow holes in them? Hoping it isn't my 268 cams causing this, might make me cry. lol

Well my ex is a hoe but I doubt that is the problem here, lol. Idk, I will jus soak all the hla's in atf for awhile and then install them and go from there. Woo, should be fun.

 

damn, you meant that kind of tick... no bueno. i take it your not going take the head off to check for interference damage... if you have good compression and no ticking, after you put the hla's in i wouldnt worry. are you boosted ? and what cam are you running ?





off topic: what are the numbers on the OEM 1.8 intake cam swap some of us did back in the day ?

 

Yeah, it was no bueno. And the only valve that was stuck open was one of the exhaust valves and from what I can remember, the exhaust valves are non interference. As for cams, Im running the sharkracing 268 cams. Well I installed the other hla's after they soaked in atf and so far they seem ok. My guess is I wasn't getting enough oil to the hla's in the upper rpm's. Apparently the beta doesnt like redline in 1-3rd gears, lol. I'll post up pics of the carnage that I made. And no, Im not boosted yet.

Nope that isnt the issue here Stocker. I only rock the oem oil filters.

i think redline on any parts this old is no bueno. i wouldnt say the engine doesnt lube well at redline, im sure its just a combination of old parts, and alot of abuse. good to hear its all fixed. did you do a compression test on that cylinder to check for a chipped or cracked valve.



i would time how long it takes that cylinder to lose its pressure, then time the others and compare. just to account for a crack or a really small chip.

 

Well the valves are the competition valves from ferrea so Im hoping that nothing has happened to them. Since the exhaust side is non-interference there is no chance they hit the piston, but is possible they have been burnt. Im jus a little leniant bout doing another compression test but I will do it sometime soon.
