Loud Ticking Sound
Before you go to the trouble of changing out the HLAs go get a can of Gunk 5 Min Flush. One of mine was doing the same thing. Added the flush, let it idle for 5 min, did an oil change and after about 10 or 15 min drive they stopped ticking. They start ticking again once in a while but an oil change can normally stop them now. Hay after 130,000 plus miles, I think they have a right to make noise once in a while.
Do just what wec2002 said. Every second oil change, use "motor flush" just prior to the oil change. Also, consider using a thinner weight oil (5-30), and consider using a premium synthetic (mobil 1 or similar).
As stated the HLA's can get "gummed up" which prevents them from filling with oil and doing their job. HLA failure CAN and DOES happen, but it's really failry rare. Worse case senario, remove both intake and exhaust cams, and soak the HLA's overnight in a tray of ATF Fluid, Motor Flush, or B12 Chemtool. Re-install in the morning. Let the engine warm up, then take it for a drive around the block, making sure the RPM's rise above 2500 RPM. The Clatter should then be gone...till they get gummed up again. Doing the motor flush every other or every 3rd oil change will make sure that doesn't happen.
Just be SURE to FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS for the motor flush you use. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR with the motor flush in the oil. DO NOT REV the engine with the motor flush in the oil Let it IDLE ONLY. Some reccomend only 5 minutes, some reccomend 15 minutes. Follow their directions, but don't think that if 5 minutes is good 30 minutes is better... Follow the directions to the letter.

Hey Random, little off topic.
What are your thoughts on running a lighter weight oil in hotter weather.
Like you're saying, run 5W30 Mobil 1. But what about 5W30 Mobil 1 in like +30 degree Celcius / 90 degree farenheit weather. What are advantages and disadvantages for HLA noises vs Engine wear by running a lighter weight oil in hotter weather?
Just been in the old way thinking of 5w30 for winter and 10w30 for summer weather,...
Thanks

Mine HLAs also make that sound but only when I start cold engine and it's running at idle. As soon as it warms up or I rev up it sound is gone.
With higher RPM oil pressure is increased and oil fill in HLA.
