Loud hum at 40mph and 60 mph
it might be the wheel bearing i know mine did that when it went out, but does it vibrate from the front, because mine did that too. and also while you are driving try cutting the wheel to either side to see if it gets louder. & does any one know how to fix that vibrating mirror thing
can someone please elaborate on wheel bearings, such as purpose, location, and ease of replacement (cost and time). Does he have to go somewhere special or to a dealership to have it replaced?
wheel bearings help the wheel hub spin smoothly. any place that does brake/front end work can replace them. i've been told that bearings are a common thing to go in hyundais. part and labor would probably be around $150 a side...but that's just a guess. that includes pressing the bearing also. and, after the bearing is replaced, you would have to pay to have the car re-aligned.
when mine went.. I got a LOT of noise at slow speeds when the car was cold.. especially if the car had been sitting for a while and I was moving slowly until it warmed..
you might also want to check your front tyres.. when my Paradas were wearing, they started making funny noises at different speeds.

Do you have stock rims or have you changed tires or rotated lately?
Might wanna go out and check your Lug Nuts really quick.

I had a very similar problem and thought it was a wheel bearing....had the dealer check it out and found out is was my brake caliper....it was sticking on and rubbing the rotor just enough to mak a noise but not slow or pull the car in one direction....my dealer fixed it under warrenty.
