ya i do but are you sure its loose and not too tight?

you tighten the timing belt by tigtening the the timing belt tensioner laugh.gif

you loosen the same way tongue.gif

the tensioner is on top the idler is on bottom. if you dont have a chilton go buy one it will tell you exacly how to do it and its only 20$

 

^^^ Good idea. Definately get a chilton man.

Be careful when you first loosen that tensioner pulley because it tends to want to flip down (its hard to explain). But if it does spin into a position so that it is lower than it was before you loosened the bolt, you have to flip it around so it is rather close to the cam gear. Otherwise you will never get it tight enough.

Oh yeah, you might want to check the crank pulley bolt too, because they would have most likely taken it off when they did the timing belt. Try to look at the crank pulley and make sure the little alignment key is in there (there will be a little notch in the bore of the pulley that slides over the crank. This is to keep the pulley from spinning on the crank), because if it isn't, the whole pulley could be slipping on the crankshaft, hence all of your belt driven accessories will be fvcked. wink1.gif

^^^ I think I'm going to have to. Chilton manuals are pain in the ass to understand unless you already know what you're doing. I had one for my storm and got frustrated with it more than once. But, unfortunatly HMAservice.com isn't offering any help an any way. Oh well... I'll give that a try today. Thanks guys.

 

It's the timing belt! It's new and tensioned tight. After a few miles it'll loosen up and go away.

 

Jon, the timing belt should NEVER make noise. If it is, it is TOO tight.
