It could be, but I also see a bit of oil on the back side of the bottom end. Ah well it doesn't matter, got new cooper gaskets anyways.

Everyone says low compression...means unhealthy engine for stock pistons. Read it everywhere. But I've never heard anything of High compression. Is it possible to have to much pressure? Say for example I was hitting 250psi in each cylinder, what would that mean?

125psi is good for MOST 4cylinders. (I said: I could be wrong and I guess I was) Why don't you check the engine with a vacuum gauge. Vacuum gauges can also tell you a lot about the condition of your engine.

The higher those numbers - the better. There is no limits on max reading.

Those numbers only suggest that you have a very good engine. Hyundai is known for inconsistencies. You have an engine at the right end of the spectrum lol.

As far as your leak goes, you need to do a leak test. Compression checks if you can generate pressure in the chamber, a leak test will tell you if all the energy from the explosion is transfered to the pistons.

It basically consist a guage mesuring chamber pressure and pressure and comparing it's reading to what it should be. If you put 50psi in the chamber but the guage only shows 47psi, than you have a 6% leak.

My numbers were, after over 200 000km and 4 years of track racing

#1 185 8%
#2 185 8%
#3 185 7%
#4 185 7%

The most important thing with compression is to have equal numbers. Then, you want them as high as possible. My numbers are quite low compared to yours however, I have aggresive cams which will lower compression readings.

Okay, so what do I need to do a leak test with?

I haven't done one before, so where would I start?

Step one, buy a leak test kit.

The instrument consist of 2 guage, a hose to screw in the spark plug hole and a fitting to connect an air hose.

Make the valves are closed one the cylinder you are testing
Screw one hose in the spark plug hole.
Plug the instrument to a compressor.
Set, with one guage, the amount of pressure you want to test with.
Apply pressure in the chamber (usualy a trigger on the instrument)
Check the second guage and compare the reading with the first guage.

Hmm, weather is getting cold around here, I hate standing outside and freezing LOL. Is there a fast/easy way to close the valves?

What pressure would you suggest to check each ccylinder? I read between 50psi-100psi.

Why does the piston have to be top dead center?
