Default intake question?

there was this article in the january issue of sport compct car that featured a Lexus IS300 racing with in the scca it had some type of insulation wrapped over its header and intake tubbing would this actualy work in decreasing tempatures?

Yes wrapping your headers and intake with heat wrap will help reduce heat. Not sure how much it will low the tempatures but it will help. I know Random and a few others have it on their tibys.

Using a metal Cold Air Intake Pipe, I saw 20 degree temp drops in the air by using exhaust heat wrap on my CAI. (Measured just before the MAF).

With the metal tubing my intake air temps were 20 to 25 degrees above ambient air temp after extended slow driving (bumper to bumper traffic or extended stoplight to stoplight traffic.

After heat wraping just the CAI, The temps never went over 5 degrees over ambient, and most of the time were at ambient air temp.

Heat wraping headers would have probably kept the air AT ambient. Do NOT try to wrap the stock exhaust manifold. Only wrap headers. The Stock Cast Iron Manifold will not put up with the extra heat held in due to the heat wrap.
