Default Installing 2.0 GT Cam today, quick questions!?

ok got the cam ready, everything's prepped, just waiting for 5pm so I can get off work and work on my baby! I've memorized both brendan's and silvertib's guides. But I got a couple questions

1. I got the spare journal bolts, but if one does break, how do I get it out? Could someone give me directions, cause the way my lucks been going, i'll be needing it later wink

2. gasket sealant, i found two different sealants, one that's a hard sealant and one that's wet(i guess one dries hard, and the other one doesn't). Which one should I get? And do I need it at all?

3.timing, is there anyway i can mess up the timing?

That is a simple one.. The 2.0 XD cam is a better cam..

I stole this from Brandon's Site..

1.8L
Cam Height: Intake 44.449mm
Cam Height: Exhaust 45.049
Journal OD: 28mm
Bearing oil clearance: 0-.025mm
End Play: .1-.2mm
8 degrees more duration . Intake open event is advanced by 5 degrees, intake close event is retarded by 3 degrees, for a total of 8 more degrees of open angle.

2.0L GEN I BETA 99/00 Elantra 96/01 Tiburon
Cam Height: Intake 44.049mm
Cam Height: Exhaust 45.049
Journal OD: 28mm
Bearing oil clearance 0-.025
End Play: .1-.2mm
Pin OD: 45mm

UPDATE
2001 Elantra intake cam
Intake : 44.820 mm (1.7646 in.) 2 degrees more duration than 1.8 intake cam
Engine build codes G4GD ( newer 2.0 BetaII 2001+ Elantra), the G4GF (older 2.0L) and G4GM (older 1.8L)

THAT should explain it all to ya..

Thanks Brandon.. Your Site Rules!

Only one thing wrong there.....the new Elantra/Tib 4cyl engine code is G4GC not G4GD.

I don't see Decker replying here anymore... hope the install went fine man! I would be of no help whatsoever... I still have my XD cam sitting in my room because I am too much of a whimp to try installing them!

If your install went fine, that would be encouraging, because I had the same questions as you!

it took me and my boy D about 20 mins to do the entire cam swap

heres something that will help you NOt snap your journal bolts......TORQUE SPECS!!!!!!!!!!!
10 ft-lbs on all journal bolts, no more, no less.
make sure you havbe a freind to crank your engine so that the intake cam (to the rear) has its little dot (you'll see it on the far right of the cam) is facing up, that eases installation by hours and you dont have to mess with your timing at all. i hope this helps.....by installing the XD cam you should get a noticable sound change, as well as a perkier engine... GOOD LUCK....any other ???s PLEASE email myself *bikrgod@yahoo.com* or brendan...i will do my best to help you out to the best of my knowledge...DO IT RIGHT!!! IF YOU CANT THEN ASK!!!!

If you don't want to crank you engine to get the dot lined up, you can also use a LONG handled wrentch to turn the camshafts. I find this less nerve racking and much cleaner.

oh sweet, got it installed and working fine! Took about a hour and a half with lunch and very careful review smile.gif Make sure the dots lined up like 100 times wink hehehee, one not tho, the 1.8L cam guide by brendan was good but i spent looking for the chain guide for my tibby. So all tibby owners not, that you dont have a upper chain guide and you'll only need 10 new cam journal bolts.

But thanks to brendan and silvertibby(?) for their cam guides, i'll post my pics soon enough!

drove it around, mutch more responsive, but i'm giving it a week to settle in before i rag it out wink

I did race a mustang coming up from athens to atlanta, and beat him very very badly off the line 3 times. stickvsstick i4vsv6.

The idle shouldn't have to be changed if its installed properly. I've done the install on a 1.8L and a 2.0L Beta with the same smooth idle after both. It sounds very good when on WOT now too.
