An idea...
My buddy who owns a 2000 celica GT was talking about building a ram air intake on the his car. So I asked him to look at the tibby to see if there was a way to do the same. He said the best thing he could come up with, without cutting into the car was to take out the part from the air filter to the mini scoup and put in a flexi-hose straight down into the original scoup. What do you guys think about this idea? Of course he recommended the K&N air filter too.

You would be better off with a CAI from KORE, or MHP.
The stock airbox/resonator design slows down air. The straighter and smoother the path...the faster the air will travel.
flexi tubing with those large coils in it slows down and "turbulates" the air.

there is no opening in the front end of the car to get cold air from the front. If you suck air off the ground, you run the risk of sucking water and debris into your intake. The fenderwell location is cold air, and protected on 3.5 sides
