Default I need expert advice

Is the 1.8 block from a 1997 the same as the 2.0 block from a early 2001 model?

I need to know cause I have both, and I dont know which to drop my 1.8 crank into for my turbo project. Nor do I know how big of an overbore sized pistons I need to purchase next week to drop in the engine. I'm shooting for 300HP so,

any takers...........

the only difference is the stroke. the 1.8L crank will let you rev higher a little more easily because the stroke is shorter. if you want more specs, check out www.hmaservice.com/webtech

Thanks for the link, but what about the type of pistons I need. I was reading this old post:

http://www.hyundaiaftermarket.com/cgi-bin/...c;f=16;t=002434

--------------------------------------------------
And this was said by Random:
QUOTE
Shaddoh-I should have clarified. 2.0L Stock "shaped" pistions. You are correct, the stock pistions will NOT last for my 400 WHP project. The units I'll be ordering will be the Ross Forged units with an 0.080 overbore and the stock "pop top" (1mm dome) design.

Guys who asked for cams....do a search, the topic has been beat to death. The 1.8L intake cam is better than the 2.0L intake cam. The new beta2 XD intake cam is better than the 1.8L intake cam. Please don't hijack this thread.
Question now is, do I need Dome or Flat pistons with a 2.0 bloack using a 1.8 crank. Will regular performance pistons like the one CNK or others sell hold up to 300plusWHP?

Very confused I guess I need someone to tell me what parts I should use and buy? I feel dumb suicide LOL

Can someone tell me whats that killer Combo of Parts Random was mentioning consists of?

It depends on what you want.
what are you doing with the motor?

If you put pistions designed for the 2.0L @ 8.5:1 Compression Ratio onto a 1.8L crank, you'll have somewhere around 6.7:1 Compression ratio.

If you run "flat top" pistions designed for 10.3:1 on the 2.0L crank, you'll end up at about 9:1 Compression ratio on the 1.8L crank and rods.

You need the 1.8L crank and rods. Not just the 1.8L crank.

I'm going the turbo route Random, custom turbo.
I wanna bore out the 2.0 block even bigger but not too big. Get some stronger rods from Kore maybe, and use CNKs pistons. I cannot use my old crank cause its warped from the accident.

I basically need to know what size overbore pistons I need to buy, and what rods to use with them. Lets just say I have the Crower rods and CNK piston. What size piston should I get? What type rod? Can I use the old 1.8 crank I have or do I need to get a 2.0 crank. I already have the Onpol Tripple Special..Ported Head,BBTB, and Ported Intake Manifold.
I dont want the compression ratio too low, cause I dont want a slow starter(car).

What do ya suggest?

BTW:
DESIGN, that link was very insightful, thanks

Also (not sure if its relative to the post but important to know nontheless), Hyundai revised the crank after 7th July 99. So make sure you know what the manufacture date is on your crank so down the road if you consider say a flywheel you know what part # to use.. wink

Just remember.

KORE/PAUTER and CNK rods. Will most likely be for the 2.0L.

My suggest is try crower. They made rods for Red for about $600 I think.

And I am sure they could easily make you some 1.8l

A little cheaper and I think they are good for 600 torque.

so you want need worry about busting them

edit ( can you share with use were you got the ecu remap )

the size of the pistons you get depends on the overbore you do. cnk sells hyperueretic pistons...which are good to around 300whp. if you plan on going to 300, just go forged and save yourself the trouble. as for the pistons and getting dome or flat top, that depends on the crank and rods you end up using and the compression ratio you plan on running. research is definately needed. poke

As Random has stated above regarding the 1.8L crank you have to make sureyou got the right Pistons in their!!
You have to ask yourself what WHP level do you want to achieve?
If you want 250WHP then you dont need to purchase Forged Rods and you can use the 8.5:1 ratio Hyper U Pistons.
If you want to go for 300WHP or more then you might as well get Forged Pistons and the Rods to be on the safe side.
Make sure you tell them you have a 1.8L motor and them can custom make the 1.8L Pistons at 8.5:1 ratio.
