Just wondering if Hyundai has ever released some kind of technical bulletin on the infamous 2nd gear problem (bad syncros)? A friend of mine is getting a refusal from the dealer to have it fixed under warranty because they said its the way he drives his car. So I'm trying to get him as much info as I can to take back to them. I told him to join the site and print out everything on here in regards to the issue and I looked through te archives on HA (wasnt much). If Hyundai released something acknowledging the fact, he can nail the dealers ass to the wall and make them fix his car.

There is no TSB that I've seen or heard of. Shouldn't he either go to a different dealer or contact Hyundai head office if the dealer is not cooperating? I had my second gear synchros replaced under warranty at about 33,000 kms. The service manager at my dealer went out for a test drive in my car, experienced the same problem with grinding into second gear and it was corrected under warranty, no questions asked. The car now has over 170,000 kms on it and the problem has not returned.

Already looked on Service Tech for him to see if there was anything. Didnt see any. I think he has enough ammo now because I talked to him just a little bit ago and he printed off 5 or 6 threads where people have complained about it and how it was fixed under warranty. He's gonna go back tomorrow morning and talk to the Dealer manager. I'm just surprised there wasnt any, because thats probably the number one warranty claim that people have with tibs. I had the issue in my car, but I switched to better oil (Redline), and havent had a problem since then. smile.gif

odd.. even when my original transmission machined itself from the inside out.. I NEVER experienced any problems with the gears.. and I will admit.. in the 95,000 miles I put on the replacement transmission... I never did change the gear oil. Even until the end, it still shifted just as nice as when new.

I would like to know though, how many people with short shifters have killed the syncros in their transmissions?

A short shifter doesn't cause damage to syncros. Banging through gears forcefully does, and that doesn't require a short shifter, just a bad driver.

That's like blaming a gun for killing someone, not the guy that pulled the trigger. My SS allows me to shift more smoothly and precisely, instead of feeling like I'm driving a mac truck with the clunky stock shifter.
