GUYS!!!

DON'T USE GASOLINE TO CLEAN YOUR ENGINE.

OR PAINT THINNER.

Are you guys freaking NUTS?

FIRE?

*Sigh*

Anyways, go to an auto store Dima, I don't know what you've got available, but get a good CITRUS based engine cleaner and use it per instructions. You could also try any of the good degreasers out there. They are cheap.

Big thing is keep it away from your intake, and keep it away from your alternator. I've used the Car Wash kind before, and there's no problems, just be carefull where you point that high pressure at.

Redz... gasoline is fine... its not going to ignite if your cleaning off your IM with it, even if the engine is still hot... which you wouldn't be cleaning it if you did. Gasoline needs a high temperature spark to ignite. You think the hoses you are cleaning with gas are going to get hot? LOL... Either way any of those chemical engine cleaners are just as flammable as gas.

i was just about to say that...

and even if the engine was hot enough...you dont do it when its running...you dont do it when its hot(cuz the metal will burn you)... and gas is very volitile(evaporates quickly) and wont stay on your engine....

You guys are crazy. Gasoline, you get a pool of it somewhere, start up your engine, wow, then you end up with fires.

Look at that GK moron with the supercharger. He blew the hell out of his engine bay with an OIL fire, and oil is MUCH less volitile than gas.

It's a stupid idea, and that is DEFINATELY not condoned here.

Use stuff that's made for doing that. Some idiot here will go pour gas on their engine and go for a 1/4 mile run.

true.. but you are still talking about violitile chemicals that do more than easily combust when in a gas form... they are a known carcinagon... try and keep from both breathing them and touching your skin.

I think my engine bay needs a good loooooooong washing.............!!

I was at the car wash like 2 weeks ago with my cuzin, and he said the best way to (quickly) wash the engine, cuz it was like one of those put in 50 dollars in quarters and get 2 minutes of concentrated water/wax/soap or whatever. Anyway he said just open the hood, let the engine run and spray it down. Is that true? Or will it like...mess something up?

I seriously did get high a little when I was cleaning up this mess the previous owner did in my engine bay and clean up what the elements did to it over time. I was seeing stars and felt like I was floating. ROFLOL.

All the parts of your engine that mess up if you get water on them are covered and protected. Using a high pressure sprayer could knock some things loose and break things, and thats why thats not recommended.

the fumes make cleaning your car fun..hehe..

redz when i clean my engine i do it when im done driving for the night so i know that if any gas pooled it will have evaporated by the next time i go to drive..i understand your caution in using the same stuff that makes explosion inside your engine to clean your engine, but if you use caution theres nothing to worry about...
