Default Functional hood scoop?

How many people on here have put functional hood scoops on their cars?
I'd like to rig up a small, simple one for the intake on my car, but I'm worried that it would take in too much water/rain/snow to make it worthwhile.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is it safe for the engine?
Does anyone have photos of such a setup on their own car?

Thanks guys!

To make a functional scoop is gonna take ALOT of work. What you are talking about is Ram Air.. Its doable but kind complicated (as in fabrication)

A better mod along the same lines would be a reverse scoop to vent the hood. Let the air flow trough. Helps in cooling.

Other then that. SOme of the body guys can give you tips on the fiber glassing and making it look smooth.

Jcwhitny carries many styles of scoops.

Random would be the guy to talk to about this. He's stated often that the water/rain/snow that makes it in thru your scoop won't be a problem. You'd have to put mucho, and I do mean MUCHO water in thru your scoop to have a problem. We're talkin like firehose mucho.

one of the best uses for a hood scoop is extra cooling. The WRX has a top mounted intercooler that the front scoop feeds. That way you aren't putting hot intercooler air into the radiator and you're getting good cooling over the intercooler.

Nice idea, but cutting metal, plastic, fiberglass, et. al. and then sanding and painting is a lot of work. That's why custom shops charge so much for it.

Ram air is a good setup too, but it is very picky to tune right and the gains are minimal (for almost the same effort you could get a nitrous system or small turbo == much more power)

not THAT much of a difference,... the Intake manifold does keep cooler than usuall,... at night the car does have a little extra kick

I would measure it in the 1-3WHP,...depending on the temperature

The scoop looks kool though eek!
