Default Performance Tip

I have the 2.0l map equipped elantra. What I did was remove the two pcv lines from the intake and air tube. One line came off the pcv valve, the other is right next to it. I attached about 2 or 3 feet of new line to both and ran them to vent onto the ground between the battery and lower radiator hose. There is actually two holes in the plastic air intake heat shield that I used to zip tie them in place, one near the top bolt and one down on the bottom. Use your imagination to plug the holes in the intake and intake tube. While I was in there I also bypassed the t/b coolant hoses. I would recommend using new hose to do this because the first time I just looped the original one and it leaked. I may look into getting a catch can from Summit Racing for the pcv lines, I'll wait and see if any junk comes out of the hoses.

Next I drove the car it was about the same but there was a problem. The engine had a dead spot at 4000-4200rpm. Just for the fun of it I disconnected the battery for a while (clears the ecu). I then reconnected the battery and drove it. This time there was a noticeable power gain and no more dead spot. I didn't think this would really work but it did. the car felt stronger at all rpm's.

There is almost enough power to break the tires loose from a rolling start in first gear (1st fully engaged, floor it at 2000rpm). With the bridgestones as sticky as they are I was surprised to here them just about breaking loose. Before I made these changes there was no way the tires would break loose in this same way.

Here is a place to get a nice catch can if you want one.

www.roadraceengineering.com

look under the eclipse engine section.
