Default Flowmaster muffler question?

I got a straight through exhaust with 4-2-1 headers for my tiburon and really hate the buzzy noise. It sounds like a honda now....

I was thinking about getting a thrush glasspack to fix the problem, but I'm afraid that it's not gonna take all the buzz away, so I was thinking about getting a flowmaster muffler, and put it after cat, but still retain the straight through muffler at the end.

Which series do you recommend to get for a 4cyl? 40 series or 50 series?

I think 50 series looks a little more restrictive and doesn't sound as mean as 40 series.

Let me know what you guys think.

thanks

From what I have seen Odessit, Flowmaster mufflers do not very well in 4 cyl. engines. I have only seen two of them installed, one was a 40 series in a Peugeot 306 XSi (4 cil. 2000cc, 128 HP) and it sounded not really good, too canny, just a tad from being ricy.
The other one was one 60 series in a Honda Civic Vtec, it sounded OK, but always inclining more to the canny side than to the Low-Growl-deep sound.
I think it's because they have no packing at all on the inside; our engines are pretty noisy, much more than a Honda Vtec engine (don't have a clue why we make more noise comparing open exhaust to open exahust) but I really think anything with packing would work many times better for your Tib, specially if you already have a non-restricted at all exhaust.
The Flowmasters however, sound G-R-E-A-T in the muscle cars, the growl from a V8 with dual sets of Flowmasters is really nice.

so what do you recommend to get?

I think a couple of people on EXD have flowmaster and they are very happy with the sound.

I got nice results with the Summit Racing Universal Muffler, Stainless Steel (very good quality) and it has some kind of packing, they advertise it as to be ceramic and Stainless Steel.
Another option would be a Magnaflow, they have packing too; but the Summit's is cheaper; of course you are putting the glasspack aren't you?
I have the 28" in a 2,5" diameter.

i did the 4-2-1 headers... straight pipe... and yea, buzz buzz buzz all the way home.

i put two consecutive glass packs on the car and this greatly reduced the buzz to where you only really get any buzzing at all at a high rev. lastly i put a magnaflow muffler on, this was the best idea i've had in that it came with a tip and such... sounds awesome. i've got the F&F tuner sound that i was looking for. its got the low growl plus the tuner rev sound at high rev.

Well magnaflow mufflers is basically the same thing as glasspack, they are designed the same way.

So, I measure everything today and decided to order flowmaster 40 delta series and 28" thrush glasspack. Hopefully it will get rid of the buzz and will have a nice deep sound to it smile.gif

I'll keep ya all updated.

.

It sounds a lot better in video clip than it is in real life. It has a buzzy noise, just like most of the honda's sound.

I will keep the can style muffler and will put a glasspack right after the cat, and then a flowmaster 40 series after it, and then it will go to the straight through muffler that I have now.

So... you are basically using the Flowmaster as a resonator in the line... that should be a good idea, keep us updated please.
