After 2001 the Elantras seem to use a different shifter. So if the parts car is a 99 you should be fine. An easy way to check compatibility would be to go to hmaservice.com (username: rdtiburon.com, password: tiburon) and compare on there. Everything on the RDs will work in this swap.

BTW, don't quote the post above you..... you'll get yelled at by a mod lol.

Thanks for the heads-up, quoting is usually standard fare in the forums I've been around, I'll knock it off.

Usually when you see a ^ that's the same as quoting the post above yours.

If the front is too bashed in, getting the goodies out of the bay might be tough.

Well here's the update thus far. I've got a transmission out of an 04 with <25k miles for about $300 sitting in a local yard, so I'll go pick that up soon. My post in the WTB section is going over really well and I've already got the hookup on everything I'd need to swap it over to manual, so that's the route I plan on taking. I've been taking pics all along, so expect to see a progress update with pics soon.

Pulling the old tranny right now.

Question, does anyone have recommendations on a good clutch for this car? Again, not looking for anything amazingly racey, but one step up from stock would be nice.

Clutch review thread
There's an entire clutch review thread. I recommend the ACT street disk with the HD pressure plate. It's a good mild clutch that doesn't have harsh engagement and will last a long time. I've had it installed over 60k miles and it still holds just as good as when it was installed.

The "go to" clutch for many and the main one the Koreans use is the VHR kit. BUT, it is a bit chatty, and the PP and flywheel combo can take months to get used to.

But god does it fly...

Looks like I'll be picking up yellowlightning's south bend street disc clutch, namely because it's a price I can't pass up. This whole swap is already taking me past my budget, and I don't expect to be doing any racing in this car, so it should hold up fine.

In other news. I just got the motor and tranny out! My motor is finally separated from the autotragic. I'm freakin' thrilled.

Hallelujah!
Can I get an amen?!

I'm gonna go snap some pics with the ol' cell phone and clean up for the night. I'll start on replacing stuff tomorrow.

You can say it, I'm the man.

I'll post pics later tonight.
