Default exhaust valve?

Anyone know where that exhaust valve is? Is it in the muffler or the piping? The valve that restricts the exhaust for low end power on the newer hyundais? rolleyes.gif

It is in the round tube shaped resonator in your exhaust. it is not a "valve" just a restriction in the piping.

On my 01 they told me there is a valve in the muffler itself. The valve is supposed to open at high rpms for less restriction. You know what I did with mine, Left it on the muffler shop floor after they took the torch to it.

The part number for the muffler on the 2001 is the same as the 2000, so I think they were just pulling your leg, unless hyundai superceeded the old muffer with the new one.

Only way to tell would be to cut it open and check.

The round resonator in our exhaust actually narrows down to about 1.5' inside it. Even though it is about 3" outside. It creates backpressure to raise low end torque, but it does limit HP a tad on the top end (and suppress a bunch of noise).
