Default Another new guy be gentle.

I want more performance out of my Tiburon but I'm not sure if I should go N/A or try and put together a Turbo system. I have been thinking off adding a 4-1 header to my car along with getting a new 246 degree cam. Also changing out my stock Fuel Pump with one that will work and replacing my fuel pressure regulator. Even if I go with N/A I still am tempted to run some nitrous. Nothing too extreme probably just a 50 shot. If I go with a turbo system I'm thinking of getting the exhaust manifold from Champion Auto in Korea that is already set up for a bolt-on turbo. Only problem is you have to hand select the rest of your parts. I know a turbo system will be more expensive but I figure if I get it piece by piece it won't seem so bad. I'm not looking to run in the NIRA or anything, I just wanna be able to chew up the local Honda gangs and make 'em think twice before they mess with a Hyundai!

Would I be better off with piecing together a turbo system from Champion Auto, or simply bolting on some parts from SR like the 4-1 header and new cam from HDK? Reliability is going to be a huge issue with me as this is my daily driver.

"Better" is a state of mind and HP!

The "build it yourself" turbo is going to be as reliable as the parts you buy (cheap parts or quality parts?) and the quality of mechanic you are, or the quality of mechanic you take it to. If you go to the "earl schieb" of turbo's (I'll install any turbo for $99.95)....expect to have reliability problems.

The same goes with the HDK/Headers theory. If you install them poorly, or have them installed by a bad mechanic...yes, you WILL have problems!

A turbo car is not inherenly "unreliable". It is usually the Engine maintenance, or the Mechanic that has cut corners or missed things that MAKES it become unreliable.

I myself am not a GREAT mechanic but my father is. He helped me custom fit my HVE exhaust on after we found out it was a whole 9 inches short! We had to actually cut out our own exhaust flanges and connect them to the front of the piece we added to the new exhaust. Plus I know someone who deals with import performance engines a lot and has a shop that can get parts for me. I could probably put a set of headers on myself, but when I get to a cam or anything else internal I would rather take it to my dealership. I've got a friend of mine who is a certified Hyundai mechanic at the dealership I deal with. As with the turbo I would have to rely completely on the mechanic. Plus it would mean a longer time to install?
