What may I ask are HLA's?....I changed to 10w30 today and it hasn't done it so far. ( *fingers crossed* )
Ya I got that too bud, think its just how our engines age. I run 10w30 all season now cuz if I put in the 5w30 its really noticable.
I think I've got it licked now. I changed to Synthetic 10w30 and only added 4L...I used to add 5L of synthetic oil on an oil change. Soooo, I was probably over filling by a liter. We'll see over time. I was running the A/C extensivley with that fricken heat spell the past week or 2. Maybe that had something to do with putting stress on the engine.
Oh and if I where an HLA, where would I be located? LOL, seriously though.

between the camshaft and valve stem.
The top surface (A) is in contact with the cam face. The cam directly pushes the lash adjuster to open or close the valve. The engine oil flows through the cylinder head and into the lash adjuster ...maintaining a constant zero valve clearance
imagine how fast those little guys are moving, if you're oil supply or amount of oil, or condition of oil is inadequate... those little guys tick and make some annoying noise.
wait'll my exhaust shows up and you won't be worried about the ticking. wink1.gif

an old trick to restoring HLAs:
soak them in ATF yes automatic transmission fluid
leave them in there overnight or for a couple days it will come clean...if it still fails the squeeze test they run 13 bux each from the dealer....really expensive!

I would first soak them in carb cleaner to get them fully cleaned out. Then you can soak them in any oil you want. I've done this before and plan to do it again this weekend to a friend car that is having the same problem.
Once you drive it around for about 5 miles, it should become noticeably better. They need time to get filled with oil. Also, let it rev the motor a little higher so the oil pressure gets higher.

Great info guys, thanks.....So far it hasn't come back, BUT if it does I'll take it off and clean it up, OR loosen the purse strings a little and splurge on a new one. LOL
Meh, I'm sure overfilling could cause them to tick as well. Overfilling is just as bad as underfilling.
Always add the specified amount in the manual and check it every once in a while (I check it every few times I get gas) to make sure your not burning any. Just because there is no oil spots on your driveway doesn't mean your not losing oil.

Now was that saying that if you rev over 3K then the HLAs can be damaged, or was it saying that at 3K+ when they're damaged, they can be even more damaged? I constantly rev my engine to past 3K, is this what happens?
