Default Engine Cleaning

I was looking at my engine the other day and noticed how dirty it was, and I want to clean off all the dirt, leaves, acorns, etc. What is the best way to clean off the engine without ruining anything?

Cover up your intake really good. Some people have actually taken the filter off, took a couple of plastic bags, and rubber banded them to end of the intake tube..making sure everything was nice and water prrof. Then go out and buy some good engine cleaner like Gunk, spray it all over, let it sit for a few minutes, and spray off with a good water pressure hose. Let everything dry, and then you can detail your engine with stuff from Pep Boys. I can't remember the exact name of it off hand. I want to say something like CD2 cleaner or whatever. It's a 2 pack. Comes with engine cleaner and detailer stuff for your hoses. Good luck! wink.gif

if you have atons of grease a good citrus cleaner will cut the grease better than the actual engine degreaser but becareful to keep it off of the rubber stuff

I gotta reccomend CD-2 Engine detailing kit. it comes in 2 cans in a box.

The first can is killer degreaser/cleaner. There was NO part of my engine that this stuff didn't clean off. Some of the thicker grime needed to be coaxed off with a toothbrush, but other than that, it was AWESOME. Just a quick note...this stuff STINKS... Don't do it in your driveway...

You then rinse your engine and let it run for about 5-10 mintues to dry.

Then let it cool for 30 minutes, and spray on the second can. this stuff makes everything look shiney. Metal, plastic, rubber, you name it...it looks awesome.

i've got some before and after pics I'll post up sunday, but for $10, it was well worth it's price. The "shiney" coat you put on also helps repel dirt. More than 3 weeks later, everything is still super clean!

So do it where, then?
The driveway of the neighbor with the dog that barks all night?
