Ebay Headers Bad?
If you are talking about those very cheap OBX copies, I am sure they are worth their price but not much more than that.. I would try them out if I was looking for something cheap, or you could wat for the equal length headers from KFX/Flyryde.
Dont do it. THe OBX ones are ok but I wouldnt take the knockoff OBX. I actually have a brand new OBX Im thinking about getting rid of for a little under what I paid. If you want it just PM me.
I just installed one of those OBX eBay headers and initially it looked like it would fit fine. However once I got started the thing needed ALOT of grinding and redrilling the bolt holes to get it to go on. Since these things are so cheap I don't think they really worry about any kind of quality control so people get different experiences with them. I just wanted you to realize that it may not go right on and you might have to MAKE it fit so be sure to have a die grinder and some rotary files on hand. It took me about 4 hours to get it right and the header flange to B pipe still didn't line up right. I got it to seal though so I'm not worried about it. Oh and you may need to buy the flange gasket separately since mine didn't come with one. Again you'll have to make that fit too since most auto parts stores don't carry generic 2" header flange gaskets and you'll have to cut and trim one to fit. I hope you plan on doing this yourself cause I'd hate to see the labor cost to have a shop make it fit!
warlord- did your headers just need bolt and notch modifications or did you have to weld on any pipe to make them fit? did you have to do any welding or was it all just drilling and grinding to make things line up?
I had to notch all the holes by the last two cylinders, grind the flange corner off to clear the power steering bracket, and grind the top of the header to B pipe flange to get it to clear the oil pan. I think mine might have been just crooked or something cause not everyone has to do so much grinding...but some do. Like I said, poor quality control but you can't beat the price. It sealed up and works so I'm not complaining really. I've had to persuade many headers even name brands like Hooker to fit my Chevy's so I'm used to it.
I got mine in this week and they look nice. The welds are clean and I got three gaskets so I should be all set. I just don't have a welder so I can't do any welding. I'm going to try and install these this week or next and take pictures so we can throw them in the DIY made for these a while ago and maybe update it some. I've heard about the problems you have had tho so they can be common for these headers. Also buzzing is common I hear, how do yours sound and how much difference in power gains do you notice?
Well it may buzz, I'm not sure. There is some new noise up there so I guess that could be considered buzzing but my car rattles alot as it is. It could be some other piece of metal rattling around! I changed the header and installed a CAI at the same time so I can't specify power gains from just the header alone. According to the butt dyno though it says it hauls ass!! It is definitely peppier. I have no cats installed but I still have the stock resonator and muffler so if I ever get around to cutting those off I may free up a little more power. Basically I bought the header as a replacement for the exhaust manifold cause my front cat stopped up and cracked the manifold all up. It even blew out a few chunks of the cast iron. There was a recall for this from Hyundai but my car is waaaay out of warranty so I didn't even bother taking it to the dealer. A replacement manifold was like $400 and this thing was $120 I think so buying the header was a no brainer. I also don't have to worry about emissions testing so your results may vary.
