Hmm, I think she'll get a CEL eventually. It takes a while for one to pop up. Mine took quite a while to come on.

Kinda like the oil light... it doesn't turn on till the engine is seized.

Tricia next time it happens try to keep it acting up like that at the same speed. By going on and off the gas it should get worse and trigger a CEL. When mine was doing this I got so frustrated I deliberatly made it do it, to relieve my frustration and wallah A CEL came on.

A CEL is an acronym smile.gif

Just kidding. CEL stands for "Check Engine Light". The orange words that light up when there is a problem with the engine.

Tell them to test drive your car..
they don't do that unless you ask them to..
I don't know if US dealer do that too..but they don't do it here..Maybe because I'm living in Canada.. Your problem cannot be found unless they drive it..They won't be able to find it when they take it straight up on a hoist..

Cats stink like eggs when they burn! Hehe

Seriously the Cat will smell like rotten eggs if you have been driving the car hard. It could be the fact that the car is trying to go but it cannot get the fuel lit. Try the open hood at night trick, It works on all cars that have that type of ignition problem. It also works to check if plug wires are broken inside the insulation.
This may sound sexist but try having your dad take the car down for you. They may believe him more than you. Sorry if it sounds bad but in all honesty it sometimes makes a difference.
Just trying to help.

Nah, the cat isn't the cause of the problem unless it's clogged which is highly unlikely.

But, if the fuel mixture isn't being lit off properly you will get that smell.

If you near S. Jersey it might be worthwhile to take a trip to Sport Hyundai in Pleasantville, exit 40 on the GSP. They're pretty good.
