Does it take more gas to start the car than to idle for a few mins?

Ok so this is something I've heard for some time now and I wanna know if it's true or a myth. Does it take more gas to start a car than it does to sit idling for a few mins with the a/c on? I just figured I'd go ahead and get an answer.

No, I think it's something like 6 seconds worth of idling on a modern car is all that ti takes from research I read.

I'd really like to test it. Brand new cars, especially those with stop/start technology, use barely any fuel to start: like 187sks said. For something like a late 90s to early 00s economy car, however, it is unclear.

I tend to turn my car off if I'm going to be idling for more than a half a minute or so.

The older carb motors took more fuel to start than a modern EFI car.
