I recommend you guys doing a Oil anaylsis sometimes.

February of 2005

Some notes before you read the chart:

-Oil sample was taken at the end of the drain
-Car was driven hard in COld weather
-stop-go traffic james everyday
-HIghway driving everyday
-This oil was sampled right before my major 90k tune up and before my Auto-Rx flush

Hyundai Tiburon FX, 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. No make up oil, Supertech Semi Synthetic oil 10w30 with Supertech ST6607 Oil filter.

Nothing too unusual showed up here. All wear read at or below averages, which is a very good indication of normal wearing parts and careful operation. Fuel dilution has lowered the viscosity and flashpoint slightly, though it isn't enough to call a problem at this point. The TBN was okay at 3.3, so the oil still has some life left. At 87,266 miles, we think this engine is doing well. Try 5,000-5,500 miles on the next oil. It isn't necessary to sample during the Auto-RX and rinse pahse unless you want to. -Blackstone

Late 2005

Notes:
-10w30 50% Valvoline Conv/50% Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic
-1 quart Shell Conventional makeup oil(My engine doesn't like Shell Oil Conv, my HLA's are noisy with this oil)
-13,000 miles on my Purolater Air filter
-Advance Auto Parts Oil filter
-oil is 4 months old, driven in the winter
-Car has 103,000 miles
-Drove 70% City and 30% highway

No problems showed up in the sample from your Hyundai. All wear read well belowaverages for this type of engine, which is a very good indication of normal wearing parts and careful operation. Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were low at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration. No fuel dilution or anti-freeze was found. Silicon was normal at 5 ppm, so your air filtration is still getting the job done. This engine appears to be doing well.

I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS except the fact that my car is burning 1 quart every 4,500 miles. I think it has to do with Synthetics. I get less oil consumptions with straight conventional oil.

Okay, you should post up some info on what all that really means, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a really good and really bad analysis, what does each of those minerals mean/do?
I can probably say I'm not speaking for just me either (unless there's lots of oil experts on here..)

Oil Anaysis is very important. Go here http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ and order a free sampling bottle. And go here http://www.bobistheoilguy.com if you want to know what each of the metals means. Iron is usually wear on the Pistons, I think copper has to do with bearings or something. Silicon is like Sand(indicates if you have a good air filter). It cost $20 to sample and a extra 10$ if you want them to find out if your oil has some life and additives left. I used the cheapest oil on the market on my first test (walmart Supertech) and I got awesoem results. They recommended me using that oil until around 5,000-6,000 miles.

Here are a bunch of cars and types of oil people have done.. Look at somebodies brand new Nissan Titan. You'll be scared to look at his results!!
