I do believe you'll need a Tach adapter, but I'm not 100% sure. Gut instinct says you will not, because the tach signal comes from the onboard ECU. However, I may be stupid wink.gif and/or may be misunderstanding all the places that the MSD taps into, and as such it may still need it.

I believe Onpol said his MSD unit needed the tach adapter. You may just want to ask the MSD guys how the Talons/Eclipses work, as they use the same type of ignition system that we do. There's a good chance that if the Talon/Eclipse doesn't need it, we will not need it either.

As for ignition timing changes and OBD2 -- I do not think the OBD2 system will gripe. It doesn't have a way to monitor your timing, it can only send ignition pulses when it wants to. The MSD unit changes the timing "after the fact" by intercepting the ignition signal from the ECU. As such, the timing can be retarded without pissing off the computer.

Apexi ITC (ignition timing controllers) alter timing by a different method -- they intercept the cam-angle sensor and alter the signal *before* the ECU gets it. The ECU still thinks everything is coming in 100% correct, and as such usually doesn't get pissed off at the "invisible" timing change either. The only difference: The ITC device can advance timing because it's making changes to the signal before the ECU gets it. The MSD unit can only retard, because it's making changes after the ECU sends.

The programmable DIS-2 unit has a cam-angle intercept module similar to the ITC device, and along with an RPM pickup is able to advance as well as retard the timing *around* the ECU's ability to sense it. Hence the higher cost.

I'd still strongly suggest the regular DIS-2. The only people who would really need the Programmable DIS2 would be individuals wanting to take their cars "to the extreme" while using bandaid fixes on the stock ecu. If you want to go extreme, do it the right way and buy a new ECU wink.gif You'll save money in the end, and still end up with more power.

I have the MIS 2 in my car and you do need a Tack adaptor as well?

It turns out that you do NOT need the tach adapter to function correctly in the BETA motors. We have a few other knowledgeable DIS-2 owners on the FXtreme forums who are using the DIS2 and DIS2/HO without any issues, and without the tach adapter.

The owner of the DIS2/HO also owns the BTM (boost timing module) and is making 227HP at the tires on 10psi with the stock internals. Yes, this person of whom we speak is Onpol wink.gif

I do recall Onpool saying you need a tach adaper.I did a search a while back and it said you needed to work properly.
I have the tach installed in my tibby?
