I just got an exedy replacement clutch kit and a stock flywheel put in my tib. I've only drove a stick shift car for about 2-3 weeks, so I'm not the best. How do I break in this clutch?

 

You drive it to work and back, without racing the rice burners who challenge you, for 500 miles.

Seriously. Just try not to slip it too much, and avoid dumping the clutch at 6kRPM from every light. Or do what the manufacturer recommends, if they gave you instructions.

 

so if i shift around 3-4k rpms for 500 miles i'll be fine? and is it ok to downshift alot instead of breaking to slow down?

 

Pretty much just drive it nice and easy. Casual really. Like any driver on the road. Shifting close to if not below 3k RPMs.

Some say up to 750 miles. At least that's what Exedy states.

 

Yah, shift 3k or under, it might be hard but its worth it to have a properly broken in clutch in the end and not just a broken clutch.

If you do give it some juice, it will most likely slip. Yah a brand new clutch is gonna slip just the same as a slipping clutch. Weird isnt it. Just break it in right by driving slow for 500 miles or what ever, then DROP THE HAMMER after the break in.

Are you putting the clutch in or someone else? Its not that hard, just an all day thing.

 

You can't give an exact rpm to shift at. If you are shifting properly the engine and transmission speed wont change much in the time it take to switch gears. 4k in 2nd gear is equal to whatever rpm you are putting it in for 3rd. There isn't much slippage just because the rpms are higher.

Basically to break it in do what they are saying as far as taking it easy. Don't stomp on the gas but you don't have to baby it either. I got the act race disc and they say a few hard pulls breaks it in lol. Easiest break in ever.

Likely an alignment issue.

 

If you were stomping on it I might say torque steer(stear?), but since you are breaking in the new clutch I would agree with caj.
