Hi,

Just wonder if anyone noticed this bad clicking engine noise after running your car very hard in 1st and 2nd gear. We are 3 97 & 98 tibis running Solo events and everytime we stop our car engine makes a clicking noise, we have tried syntetic oils and we still have this problem. It actually go away after we run the car normally for about 5 minutes. It seem to be a problem with the oil not getting everywhere in the engine. Any ideas ?

I am thinking toward the hydraulic lash adjustment for the valves. It may be time for a head rebuild.

Could be, but all 3 of us have been having this problem since we started racing Solo events. Seem to be a Tiburon problem in general, I would like to ear from other Solo drives that push it hard for 2 minutes in 1st gear at 6000RPM. Try a few run in a parking lots.

I can tell you there is an oiling problem with the head. Near my house there is a cloverleaf where the Garden State Parkway meets the Atlantic City Expressway. Getting onto the Expressway, heading towards Philly from the parkway north, it is a nice even 270 desgree right hand turn.. I can generally take it in third... if I go too fast, once I straighten out and floor the car to get up (and over) the speedlimit, my tib can pour all sorts of smoke out the exhaust for a couple of seconds. Scared me silly first time it happened (when the car had about 3,000 miles on it). Just from that, I can tell that oil pools into the back of the head (clutch side) and does not return well to the block and pan.

Sound like the kind of problem we have, no smoke but I wouldn't be suprise that it's a oil problem not returning well the the block and pan. It use to be worst until we start puting syntetic oil and it's worst when the oil is older.

Whoa,... you don't need new HLAs yet,...
Yeah it is the HLA's not getting enough oil,... But do an engine flush and take it from there.
Use synthetic, and make sure your oil is topped up, not too full or short of oil

I don't have that problem, but a couple of the other guys who were running with older tibs, a 97 and 98 with LOTSA kilometers on it did it.

Jon, did an engine flush and it did it wonders!
So, engine flush first!

Thanks Kayjai... we do use syntetic oil alredy and had just done oil change on our cars a week ago.
But our tibis are 97-98 models with around 100,000km on them.

Yeah we noticed on Lisa's (98) and Jon's (97) last year after a hard run @ autox
Jon I think has 140K's and lisa closed to 150K's, lots for a 98, but she travels back and forth to BC lots

But yeah, go for a engine flush, it'll do wonders.
