When I changed my clutch, I had the same problem. It turned out that the linkage on top of the transmission was not reasembled correctly. There should be some bushings and some washers that go on the springs. They bind if they're not there. You should check that and also lubricate that assembly. Hopefully you havn't checked that and it works for you.

it shifts when the car isn't running just fine and it worked for 2-3k miles with this clutch. soo thats probably not it. Plus I lubricated everything when reassembling it with lithium grease.

^^ok, but is it random, or is it all the time? Mine would seemingly never change gears until it decided to cooperate. Then it worked alright, but still tight without the bushing and lubrication.
Also, if it were the clutch not disengauging, then it would roll forewards like 1 inch off the ground. The stock clutch does not engauge until 1 inch from the top.

...I'm pretty annoyed right now. I think the pictures are self explanatory.
Optimo what ever happened with your flywheel and gripforce?

I think I'm going to send them a link to this thread and see if they will do anything about it. Two flywheels with the same problem?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=150158065504 - there's where I bought mine.

I think the pp and disc are good enough to use again. There's a small gouge in the disc at one spot but nothing serious.

It's the flywheel, I think they just suck. This is the third time I've replaced the clutch in this car. The other two were with the stock flywheel. Did everything the same as last time.

Well gripforce never responded.
I went and had the stock flywheel resurfaced so I get get it put back together this weekend.. of course getting it fixed just in time for tons of wet weather.

Damn! Starter jumped a tooth out! This is why fidanza uses the stock ring gear on their flywheels.
Just a FYI though: I would slip with that ACT clutch and pressure plate (rated for 240wtq my ass) at like 11 psi on my alpine kit. Then I got the ACT 4 puck. All was well.

I suppose that little bit of mass on the end of the flywheel would probly throw the entire engine out of ballance at 3,000 RPM. But, will the starter still work with just 1 tooth missing?
I feel your pain though. When I did my clutch, my friend stuck the TOB on the Pressure plate... The only thing in the DIY guide which was bold, red, 72 pt and underlined stating DO NOT DO IT... We couldn't figure out how to release it so we pried it with a prybar. The pedal vibration was too much for me from a bent spline.
Also, I didn't know the autocraft shop had a transmission jack, so I was holding the transmission above my head for about 5 minutes while he went to get a tool. Heavy fuxor.
So I did it again. I bought a new oem clutch kit and used Elantra flywheel with 20,000 miles and had it resurfaced. My buddy (same guy) showed up just in the nick of time to help me out with reassembly. He put on my new flywheel with an impact wrench in a circular pattern...... I drove down the road and heard this odd clanking sound. Everthing seemed normal, but there was an odd noise.
So I did it again. I got the car back onto the lift and did the job myself. I found my new flywheel's center was busted out right around the smallest portion of metal between each bolt which secures the flywheel to the engine. I was so damn pissed. I had my stock flywheel resurfaced, assembled the clutch correctly, and It's been running smoothly ever since.
Nothing beats doing a job correctly the first time. At least you can blame parts and we can learn not to buy those parts. I just learned it's best to do a job yourself and, if someone else helps, make sure you watch what the heck they're doing unless they're the meticulous type.

I did the same thing with the tob but it is possible to get it off of there. It's a little tricky though. I made another thread about it somewhere.
on the starter I really really don't think the starter has anything to do with it. I think the flywheel is just a pos. the teeth on the starter all still look perfect and I didn't do any "false" starts while this flywheel was in there.
well the reassembly should start tonight, got my royal purple gear oil in today and the resurfaced flywheel yesterday.
