You'd have to immerse the entire filter in a bucket of water and gun the engine before you have to worry about hydro-lock.

Okay, that's a little extreme, but you have nothing to worry about. Does your filter sit in the fenderwell above/behind the stock plastic weatherguards (a-la Random Special), or is it hanging like one of the production intakes?

it's a random special with it in the fender well. engine shield has an extra hole in it (got careless due to sun setting) and theres a gap between the engine shield and the fenderwell nose cover.. not 100% sure how wet it was, i reached up underneith and rubed my fingers around and they came out with water on them... so to actualy cause a problem i'd have to dunk 1/2 the filter into a puddle right?

No. You would have to dunk the ENTIRE filter underwater, and more than that, the entire filter would have to be submerged long enough for the engine to suck water up a 2.5+ inch diameter pipe 2-3 feet long. This isn't much time, but the likelyhood of it happening is VERY slim. The sort of conditions that would cause this to happen, are the kind of conditions that you should not be driving in. Constant driving through water up to the middle of your wheels is stupid, eh? The occasional puddle, even a deep one as long as it is shallow enough to drive out the other side without getting water in under the doors, WILL NOT hydrolock your engine.

...unless God hates you, which is unlikely.

i had a problem with a cold air intake on my highschool car... a 94 nissan sentra... i got in a deep puddle, for just a second.. i didnt mess up the engine ,but i fried the air flow meter sad.gif

the dealer was the only one i could turn to and they raped me for a grand total of $360 for a new one including labor.

.. that was then, this is now... i use a short intake. 1-5 extra HP isnt worth it anyway. hehehehe

There shouldn't be a problem with your intake and water. I've had my Random special on for over a year, never any difficulties caused by water. The only downside is the crappy APC filter I've got on the end of it, but a dry paint brush usually fixes that. One of these days I'll get around to putting a better filter on.

Glad we could be of some help.
