But that would happen with ANY cotton/gauze style filter, and is not unique to the APC design/filter.I'm guessing his filter gets really dirty and he usues it to brush it off. Thats the only thing i could think of.
I actually somewhat like the APC filter, it is quite a bargian compared to the cost of a K&N filter or a HKS filter.
Yeah, I use the brush to remove the dust and surface dirt from my filter. Yes, that happens to all filters, but I have yet to thoroughly clean my APC, so it gets to be a pain when I have to crawl under the car and clean the damn thing after every fillup (I park in a dirt lot everyday, and there's an open field right behind my lot at home- you should see my engine bay
).
I haven't attempted to clean the APC filter with my K&N service kit...maybe I should give it a go. Anyone else try this?
Still, I like the K&N's better, 'cause the oil draws the dirt and debris and keeps it from clogging the element. But, they are twice as much.

In regard to the CAI taking up water...I'm glad you all have posted this, because I have not done a water test w/ my CAI. I do have a bypass valve & the APC filter...(basicly a Random Special modified for any accent...got the filter under the battery w/ the bypass running up next to the battery. Hope it works...
For the APC filter...you can use your K&N recharge kit...I did and "no problems"...same baisc filter, different name (lower price).

ammoman-
You clean and treat the APC filter just like the K&N. Your APC filter should be oiled just like a K&N.
Yes, you can use the K&N filter cleaning kit on the APC filter.

It shouldn't really cost you any power, and a few teaspoonfuls would just turn to steam and try to clean your top end. To hydrolock the engine, you need at LEAST enough to fill a combustion chamber full (65+cc?) and that all into ONE chamber in ONE stroke. Not likely.

The theory is sound. It takes only a few TABLESPOONS full to hydrolock and engine. However, that 2 tablespoons of water has to make it up a 2' to 2.5' pipe, through the MAF, past the HOT throttle body, Past the HOT intake manifold, and enough water has to go down ONE of the FOUR intake runner, contact the 2 VERY HOT valves, land on the UNGODLY HOT pistion, and sit there and wait to be squished against the UNGODLY hot combustion chamber walls, combustion chamber roof and UNGODLY HOT exhaust valves. Being unable to be squished, it will then do damage.
Needless to say, it takes MUCH more than just a few Tablespoons of water to survive the journey. The only way you are getting that kind of water in the engine it to rev it to 6500 rpms and squirt a garden hose at the filter, or dunk the front end of the car 12" deep in water to get the air filter more than 1/2 under water.

Please to report that my CAI w/ bypass valve passed the RAIN test yesterday.
I had to drive and it finally rained here. Had no problems to or from work and cruz'n around last night!
Thanks again Random for your help/suggestions/experience. It came in handy and has paid off (my car thanks you too). Once again...if my wife ever pick the film/disk I'll have pics posted w/ bypass & w/out.
