This engine must burn oil. afther i while the engine starts clicking from tha cam/valves and there are low oil level. I have checked for any leaks without no results. even the oil tap plug are tight. no leaks at oil filter location. PCV valve are intact too. A friend of mine said it could be tha valve stem seals, are they hard to change ? if it dosen´t get any better it could be the piston rings .. My car has been doing this a couple of years know ..since 100k and up to 167000kilometer. PIA ... is there anyone who can tell me what kind of engine i have from the pics ? for me it looks like the beta1 .. but 1.6 version that was delivered over here in norway. 2000 model btw. MAP based so no MAF unit ..

Run a compression test.

also

If you use the engine at high-RPMs frequently, the oil could be coming through the PCV into the intake manifold.

a little valvetrain clatter is "normal" for the Beta engines.

If it's much below 180PSI I'd say it's low. Up to 230PSI. I'm not sure what that converts to.

The first thing to check is for clogs in your PCV drain, there's a DIY guide on this site. Myself and RED ZMAN have both cleaned ours out with good results. It's right under the valve cover.

.. Sorry, the easist thing to check without special tools. Not everyone has a spare compression tester on hand. I was burning oil and I tested my compression, which tested out fine so I started tearing apart everything and found out the problem.

You mean the flat metal plate inside the valve cover? Seems like you'd have to be running boost or some nasty oil to get that clogged up.

Compression tester: my dad has one; I had to wait for the weekend. Ah, the tools I would have, if only I had money for them. sigh.gif

have you checked your PCV valve?

There's a few other things left to check before you change the oil ring on the piston. All that comes to mind right now is the PCV valve.

The PCV valve is supposed to let some oily crankcase air in to be burned in the cylinders. Do a search on oil catch cans and you'll see what I mean
