A Sticky Thread says that the Beat 2 head gasket is 2 layer as opposed to the beta 1... so is the beta 2 gasket just thicker? Would they be interchangeable?

They should all actually be 3 layers.
Metal then plastic/rubber bonding material then more metal
When they are new, they are schooshed together so well, they appear as one layer of metal, but after some mileage, at the corners/edges that stick out of the block/head, they seperate due to vibration.

I read somewhere (I think the people from REAL ENGINEERING) that you could raise the compression on the Beta1 by putting 1.8 pistons and a Beta2 head gasket; I assumed it was thinner than the Beta1 because of that comment.
Would it be the same? It could be thicker too (and they recommend it not to raise compression too much).
