I noticed a little leake under the car everynight after driving it that day and wondered where it might be coming from. I looked under the car and noticed that it was coming from the passenger side about mid-way down the motor. Wondering if this might be the water pump and if it is, how hard is the install of a new one. Also, steps i could possibly take to replace it myself.

check what fluid is that, are you sure it's anti-freeze?

it is antifreeze. The prestone 100k fluid.

update: water pump went out 20 mins ago...coolant everywhere.

It's not impossible to replace, but it wasn't worth the hassle for me so I took my car to a mechanic. Basically you have to take off all the belts, then remove the alternator and the bracket it sits on (which is bolted to the water pump). Then take off the water pump pulley and remove the pump.

I am taking it to my mechanic in the morning. I don't have time to do it tomorrow. The funny thing is that i bought a new one ten minutes before it blew.

Might cost you a pretty penny, but you get to replace all the belts and everything now too. Should run better afterwards.

what u should change:water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioners, and if accesary belts are bad or cracking replace um.

if you dont have a chilton already i suggest u get one. u are asking for tips and how to do it so i guess u havent done one before go buy a chilton book!. there is soo many uses for the book for everything there 20$ too so get it.

its easy to do just follow the steps in the book.
i'll give u some steps to help u just incase u dont take my advice.

1. take off front passenger side wheel.
2. take negative off battery.
3. remover top timing belt cover. make sure timing marks match up
4. put jack under engine, remove motor mount.
5.loosen all belts and remove.
6.remove power steering pump. loosen alternator top brackette push alternator all the way forward
7.remove lower timing belt cover.
8.remove crankshaft pulley and timing belt idlers
9.remove timing belt
10.take out water pump and pulley
11. make sure area is clean of all gasket material
12.install new water pump, new timing belt idelers,new timing belt
13. install everything from steps 8 -1 in reverse/opposite order

dude...too bad you did give that information a couple days earlier. it is only costing me 225 from the shop i go to. They hook us up for sending alot of business there way from where I work. I am going to pick up one of the manuals here in a couple mins while the car is at the shop. It is my only vehicle and if something goes bad, i have to get it fixed right away or I make no money from work.

I will still probably do a DIY for this and take pictures one day while i am bored here in the next week during spring break from college.

Also, i had the timing belt and tensioner, and all acc. belts replaced as of 12k ago so those should be fine.
