So for those of you following my tragedy, as you all know I found a really well proceed low mileage trans. And after weeks of research I was under the impression that the Beta1 and Beta2 trans are interchangeable. Of course I had not yet realized that my car is auto and most of you drive manuals. So.. um...... yeah.... I guess I was just in denial. Last week I ordered a 2002 Elantra trans with ONLY 9k miles on it, paid a whole c-note to get it, delivered included. Figuring if i get in over my head its at least cheep enough to resell. Well I got the trans today and began pulling the car apart when we noticed a few small problems.

1) The pan for trans fluid is mounted forward on the trans and will not physically fit. Plus even if I force it in the fluid check will not clear the battery, It will be directly under.
2) The mount bracket is on the opposite side of the trans
3) The shift hardware on the case seems to be at a totally different angle.

I found here earlier http://www.tiburonquebec.com/webtemp...rannyspecs.jpg for mans, but is there one for autos? I need to know if i am wasting my efforts and should concede or if there is a way indeed to make this tranny fit?

so, are you swapping from auto to manual, or did you buy a beta II automatic trans?

auto to auto. I'd love a manual again, but I really can't invest the time (let alone money) into the swap I was hoping to be back up by monday

c-note = 100$

if you got the trans for 100$, you got a steal.

and even IF someone paid 1k$ for an auto tranny with 9000 miles, that would still be a good deal.

I agree if it had been 1K that would have been nuts. But I guess this proves that the BetaII auto swap is, if at all possible definitely a waste of time and effort. An auto to manual swap would be quicker, cheaper and a far better use of funds.
02.gif damnit.

I'm just going to stick this thing on ebay and see if it sells.
I've had a 944 fender that I've been meaning to sell for years now and this will give me an excuse to get that done at the same time.

You could also list it on newtiburon or the elantra site.

People there might be looking for a beta 2 auto...
