I recently got a bbtb for my 99 tiburon, After I got to installing it I realized it wasn't fit for my year tiburon. I got it to fit and it seems to fit perfectly, I'm guessing the throttle body was for a beta 2..

once i got it to fit, i was get bad gas response (i would have to push the gas pedal down like 3 inches before it would start to gas). I eventually adjusted the cable on the throttle body and now the gas pedal is extremely touchy.. so now for my question

How can I be sure my car isn't running rich? and if it might be running rich is there a good way to fix it?

Thanks smile.gif

Only way to really tell is get a wideband o2 sensor and monitor it. I can tell you right now it is running rich. Also, to change it you would need some sort of tuner. SMT-6 or the FIC would do great for you.

Honestly though, I wouldnt mess with it unless you have more plans for the car.

That being said, what are your goals with it?

My goals are to get more horsepower without spending tons of money =)

When you say you wouldn't mess with it, do you mean i should put the stock one back on or just keep it running rich?

Keep it on. Our cars run rich either way. Once you start to do more mods those two are something to think about looking into. Also, if you ever want to turbo it you will need those anyway. They will help NA, just not as much.

I meant I would leave it as is and not mess with the tuning right now for the price if you dont have higher goals.

if you got a system upgrade BBTB form seoulfulracing or kspec you more than likely got a beta 2 model. you are also probably experiencing a huge vacuum leak because the ilde air control hole is off to the side of the throttle boddy where as beta1 models have the iac hole in the center striaight up in the bore of the TB.

pics of course would help, but if you have no way of getting to a digi cam, look at this and tell me if the backside of your bbtb looks like this.

backside of a beta 2 bbtb

backside of beta2 tb attached to a beta1 airram intake manifold.

if this looks like your setup you have set your tb butterfly open enough to idle but you have air escaping cause of the vacuum leak.

let us know...

Well first off a BBTB is going to bring in more air, which would make it lean...not rich. Im not sure what would make you think that

2nd, unless your running boost, your ecm will keep you in safe peramiters as far as A/F ratio.

How big is the Throttle body? The only loss here is going to be low-end power if its toooooo big.

Im just saying our cars run rich stock with no mods. The more air coming in helps make it run a little more lean but not even close to ideal.

It looks similar to those pictures. I drilled a hole in order to make it fit, and it lined up perfectly, when i put my hand around it when revving no air is being sucked from outside the seal.. so i don't think its a leak.. I'll get pictures in a few minutes.
