Anyone Running A Ss Clutch Line?
My clutch fluid turns pitch black within a week of replacement. My only guess it that the rubber hose is dissolving on the inside. I'd like to replace it with stainless steel, but I haven't found any specific aftermarket products.
Has anyone here made their own SS line? Details would be much appreciated. smile.gif

Doubt the rubber is dissolving in your fluid, rubber doesnt corrode easily, which is why we use it.
And even if it was dissolving SS line definatly wouldnt help, its not a metal hose, its a rubber hose wrapped in stainless braids to prevent expanding under pressure aka bulging, so where the fluid flowed would still be in contact with rubber which is like i said, probably not dissolving.

you might want to check you MC and SC.. eather one could be going... also look up under the clutch pedal and you will see a black cap there remove it and see if your leaking oil and if so your MC is bad the same goes for the SC

No leak, never lost a drop. No issues at all, master and slave cylinders are fine. The hose, however, is very dry-looking, and has fine cracks, almost crazing on the surface. It's gotta be the hose.
You should replace the rubber clutch and brake hoses every two years. Hydraulic fluid is very caustic and will slowly eat the hose from the inside out. Turning the fluid black is only the first step, a couple more years, the pedal will start slowing down on the return and the clutch will start slipping because the fluid is being blocked from returning to the clutch master cylinder.
Hydraulic fluid, save for the silicone stuff, is also hydroscopic. This means it absorbs moisture. It can do this right THROUGH the hard and soft lines. As it does so, it's boiling point is lowered and the moisture will begin to corrode the master and slave cylinders.

Hmm, my brake hoses look pretty bad too. They're all original, so I guess it's time. I just bled my brakes, and the fluid near the calipers was perfectly clear, but the reservior fluid was black. Same reason as the clutch fluid maybe.

I had to wait until school got out so I could get to the store before they close.
Also have to work on some other things first.
I'll get to it....eventually. tongue.gif
