just thought i'd let you guys know about this. Guy at the auto shop said not to use mobil 1 anymore. Why, well ever since the hurricane hit texas i guess they lost so much money they don't ceritifiy through API anymore. He told me that it would void warrintys on your car if they found out that you were usin it. Compare the old bottles to the new ones. The new ones have no API stamp on them, because at the moment their not doin it. If anyone heard otherwise let me know.

I believe that is no longer the case. It's true that Katrina cause a supply disruption that forced them to switch from API Certified to "Meets API Certification" or something along those lines.

They've gone back to being API Certified last time I checked. Either way, I haven't found another oil that I'd trust to run for 10K Miles, like I am currently doing with my MB1 EP in my Tib.

the only way i could see the dealership finding out about you using mobil 1 is by the owner telling them.

Im not worried about it, its not like they would put out a crappy product.

and I only use mobil 1 but for those guys running any oil for 10,000 miles it seems crazy to me, I would never go past 3, i try to change it on 2-2500 but im boosted so it makes more sense. Regardless of what a oil maker says i wouldnt go that far, hyundai says 6500 with regular oil, even that is just asking for trouble in my opinion. I wouldnt really want metal shavings, dirt, carbon, etc hanging around my oil for that long, not to mention your asking alot of your filter. But thats me lol.

i ran mobil one for about 6 months. mobil 1 made my car have a ticking noise. something to do with the oil being to lite when heated up i think. i use a synthetic blend now and i have no complaints.

i work in a refinery. api approved means there is a guy being paid to test the product in the lab to see if it reaches a certain requirement. sorta like a rabi making grape juice kosher its the same juice just theres a rabi there to bless it and make sure nothing evil is added. lmao.gif

it means nothing was wrong with mobil 1 just that the lab guy skipped town tongue.gif

I've heard a few people say the same thing about Mobil 1. I've also been told that it's a type of "cleansing" oil that will break up and gunk that may be in your system, and it may eat away at some of the sealants or something. If you have high mileage, I've been told not to switch to Mobil 1, as it may "clean" out the stuff that's actually holding your engine together (the old gunk)

^^ yeea this is true.. for those who switch at high mileage may find that the oil is very thin and will slip through tiny spots and start to leak as opposed to conventional oil thats thicker and allows the sludge to stay there and hold it in..

By high mileage you mean like 75,000? I just put Mobil 1 in and I'm at just over 50k. I've used synthetic since I bought the car a year ago without problems.
