With gases, you want as straight and same size width area as possible to get them in the engine the fastest. When gases have to start moving up and down in piping, it churns them up, creating velocity problems.

 

Generally, gases follow fluid dynamics. In an older carbed car.. a small bore carb will deliver superior velocity at slow engine speed, but then cause a choke at high. This is why most street driven v8s back in the seventies ran a small carter carb from the factory.. usually a two barrel. It allowed a smooth and hiccup free drive with a sacrifice in high RPMs and power.

When racing, that same V8 would probably run a four barrel, usually a holly. You would loose low end driveability, but it would scream up at the top end of their RPM abilities.

However, this generally all falls apart once you go to fuel injection. Yes, a smaller TB and stock intake will give you smooth engine and generally superior response at low engine speeds, The Iar Ram and the Larger TB will give you a screaming amount of power and air flow at high... but with Fuel injection, you will not lose driveability... you might lose some low end power as a small amount of air "gets lost" in the huge expanse of your TB and air ram... but generally injection has rendered herky jerky cars to the junkyard...

Somewhat true, but too small creates a restriction, that's why we want to make it bigger, butnot TOO big.

 

The seller, boostedtib, said the KORE headers were made by OBX. This is a veteran question for those familar with the Tiburons since the beginning, way before my time with the car.

 

They may have been made by them, but I'm pretty sure it was actually R Side.

 

The only thing having a smaller TB will do is increase the air velocity, that will also heat up the air, as well as restrict the amount at WOT when there's a whole crapload trying to flow into that small space.

Someone mentioned carb'ed cars..this would be similar to a venturi no? It would almost create a sort of vacuum if the TB was small enough.

Also, if you know that much about carbed cars.. you would know about velocity stacks. Having seen the insides of an airram, the inside shaping of the airram reminds me of them. The way the ports down to the head form a funnel from the more open plenum of the airram.. these also build velocity, but without adding restriction.

Very good point man, the heat up of the air from pressure is definately a downfall.
