sorry but cars just dont lose compression for no reason and just suddenly expecially if the timing belt didnt break

if you took the head off you couldve seen why

it couldve just been a bent valve and a simple valve job wouldve fixed it

a leak down test wouldve shown you EXACTLY what your problem was

hell instead of wasting your time on machine work just buy a used motor at this point

your probably lookin at 600 or so TOPS plus belts/pumps/hoses etc

and where did the 5 grand option come from!?!?!?!

LONG BLOCK labor is like 15 hours and the long blcok is like 1500 bux

4 grand TOPS if that obviously he was tryin to take you for a ride

Yeah I got the head off, I don't know alot, but by looking at them I dont see any valves that could be bent. He was like I'll call around but my best guess is 4 or 5 grand for a new motor. Plus labor. I was like, NO. Yeah just weird, was running great than boom. Nothing.

No just looks a little frayed on the outsides. Going to replace it now though. Might as well. Take me 2 mins to put it on with the motor out.lol.. yeah the guy at the machine shop he wasn't gonna charge me anything to look at it. If there's nothing wrong with it, I would assume theres something wrong with the block. Except like I said from what I can visually see, I see nothing wrong. I want him to tell me something doesn't look right cuz than I did all this for nothing.

The timing belt probably jumped and that's why you have no compression. The belt won't necessarily look bad from that.

It's too bad that you didn't ask what cylinders had what compression. It would have told you a lot.

At this point, like faith said just get a junkyard engine. It'll be less than the head work you're looking at.

I dropped the head and block off today to get some work done. Sorry, didn't feel like going to a junk yard and going through a hassle of try searching for one, yanking it out myself. The machine shop guy said all my intake valves were bent. I'm just gonna have him replace whatever needs and go through the block to and replace whatever need be. Yeah, my guess is the belt slipped. I would assume just wear and tear would cause this to happen? opinions? Also, I'm going to buy the timing belt kit. Replace tensioner and pulley.

well the belt could jump if it:

wasnt very tight meaning the tensioner wasnt holding true enough

or

there was something inside of the timing cover - we had a mouse cause a tundra to bend valves that way once lol

glad you were able to figure it out, if he can fix it for CHEAP i guess id be worth it

at my old local yard i could yank a engine out for ~ 250

or i couldve paid a tad higher at a different yard and got a better warranty and they wouldve pulled it out

still cheaper than most machine shops will charge for a cylinder head rebuild plus it wouldve had lower mileage than the one you had

at least you learned something from the process
