considering there have been numerous amounts of ppl on this site that have put a 98 trans into a 2001... or the other way around... you should have no issues

Yes but with any modifications to the mount or engine bay. Or was it as easy as bolt on, plug in, works? Because if it needs to be modified to work, I wouldn't know how to do that..

Jesus f***ing christ, when folks say it BOLTS RIGHT UP, it BOLTS RIGHT UP. NO MODIFICATIONS. If there is a sensor difference that makes it so you can't connect YOUR harness to the NEW tranny, just swap out the sensors from your CURRENT tranny into the NEW one.

I led you through half of this in your series of PM's Ruiz.

Honestly, if you are this scared of it and don't believe us, then don't do it. There are dozens of threads here and hundreds of posts, with dozens of members that have swapped from auto to manual, beta 1 to beta 2, and back.

Lastly, I told you to read and follow the forum rules. Stop quoting the post above yours, use the ADD REPLY function at the bottom of the page.

Oh, and don't PM me about me chewing your ass either. PM Javageek about it, he loves that.

dude are you serious? sadwavey.gif wtf.gif when people say it blots right up. it bolts up. as far as information an pictures. we have a search function. before you even ask. NO we wont restructure the site that has been proven to work very effectively the way it is JUST because YOUR too lazy to do a proper search.. there are many threads about this very subject with pictures. i know because ive searchecd them before. if for some odd reason in the year 2008 you dont know how to conduct a proper search, just type "put wat your searching for here" in the search window. as far as trans removal i know there is a diy for most of it under cv axle removal. i know this also because ahhh... nope i didnt search it i wrote the diy. which alas there is a whole list of diys stickied if you so need em, so please do the research an look. i swear it wont hurt you. heres the link t the diy's,

I actually phoned a hyundai dealership today and they told me the A4bf-2 (or half year 99 and up) tranny's wont work because the plugs and stuff arnt in the right place

they're trying to keep their jobs is why.

no modifications needed. same engine. same chassis. same mounting points. same sensors, same oil lines, same coolant lines (if auto) all 1996-2001 transmissions work back and fourth with each 96-01 tiburon/elantra engine. same bolts same everything. it's practically the same car on the inside but the oxygen sensors, dash, lights and other small things have been changed but down there it's all identical. just about 99.8 % of facelifted cars have the same parts bud. especially ours since it's all the same platform.

my transmission is a brand new 2001 5-speed on my 1997 former automatic. the numbers likely have to do with assembly but it's all the same s--t man. you won't have any problems. all the merrier if you're having your transmission replaced with a newer one it bolts up just as good as the original.

anywhoo, good luck and happy thanksgiving.

It's rule number 9 in the Official RD Rules. You gotta coddle newbs with under 50 posts. Run the search for them the first couple of times at least. They may not know how to use the internets. I'm a oldschool member and I cannot find it. I browsed through a bunch of the threads, then i gave up and used search for "transmission" nothing about removing and installing an automatic, just auto-manual swap and manual transmission clutch replacement.

Guess you will have to ban me lol. Simmer down. It's a message board on the internet, nothing to get worked up about. And seriously, it's the dumbest thing I have ever heard on a forum, not to quote the above post, wow. Clearly it's there for a reason. Just think about it. As I told you via PM, get some competent admins for this site. At anyrate, I got my answers, a mod can close this is he or she wishes. Thanks to others for good information, people who don't live on message boards.

Competent admins? If you have an issue with how things are ran noone is forcing you to stay. We have rules for reasons, its to keep shit organized and not all jumbled around. We are strict on rules here for the benefit of the members. Im going to suggest you do not make comments about the staff, especially admins, from this point on. This is closed since the information you needed was presented in like the third post. Expect Redz to stop in here quick also most likely.

Received PM from Tib_500 who requested this open so he could post information he had. I figured if there was any difference in connectors you could swap sensors, but I also have no experience with automatic transmissions on these cars. Thanks 500 for being cool about it and notifying me. fing02.gif

for your real answer an RD2 automatic transmission will not be a complete bolt in and go swap. i personally believed the same when selling another member an RD2 transmission for his RD1. this lead to many complications. he and i were getting the feedback as people are sending now. manual transmissions are what most people on here know about. the RD1 and RD2 trannys have completely different designs. it ended up requiring a wiring and transmission computer swap to work correctly.

So it needed the Trans computer from the RD2, and any idea what wiring modifications exactly?

we ended up having to change the whole wiring harness. it was not fun at all. the plugs could not be spliced because there was a shortage of wires in the rd1s wiring. It is possible but not worth it.

in changing the wiring we only did the transmission harness but it actually runs with the engine harness as well so it was quite a wiring mess getting both ran.
