Took them atleast 2 weeks each time lol. The dealership i bought the car from did it the first time, and another hyundai dealer worked on it the second time. First time i had them changed took almost 8 weeks ha ha. They chipped a spline off the input shaft and a new one had to be CNC machined in Korea lol. I'm happy i haven't had anymore trouble regarding syncros in over 2 years. But i think now i could replace them myself now that i've had two years of auto classes, and have tore down honda 5-speed trannies. Just need access to a shop press and its pretty straight forward.

Yeah there's not much chance of me doing it myself anyway. No garage of my own.
And to be in agreeance, yes, I probably would be in over my head.(and I would never hear the end of it from my g/f, lol)

Agreement, please.
Get a few quarts of Redline and change the oil. If it comes out nasty black with chunks of metal, it is possible you have a going-bad transaxle. If it comes out some shade of brown with a moderate amount of little powder-like gold flecks that is normal, and the new, high quality oil may make your shifting much smoother.
There are no synchros on 1st gear in these transaxles. You will have to rev-match or be at a near stop to downshift into first. Totally normal.

Wellllll.... hmmmm.
It seems as though the guy who owned the tib before me didn't figure that the transmission oil ever needed to be changed. Or at least that's what the technician from the the shop relayed it to be. "Probably hasn't been change for at least 60 000 if ever."
She still grinds a little when I give'er over 4K in 3rd gear but as for daily driving, she's not showing any sign of a problem. I'll get it all fixed soon enough, she's been neglected. Needs serious TLC. Soon enough though, once she's paid off, then I can sink some serious cash and effort into her.
And, again, thanks all for the advice.

The shop ended up using some synthetic stuff. $17 a Quart, so I figure that it must be some brand name, but it could just be a generic house brand that they charge that much for.
But if you're doing it yourself, I'd follow the advise of the forum and use some of the high end stuff like Royal Purple or Redline.
