redline ftmfw trust me the consistencies are so different, royal purple is like water compared to redline. purchase redline mt90 for about 25 dollars i think its worth a try compared to the amount you would spend on a tranny fing02.gif

The reason I chose Royal Purple in the first place is because people who had tried both told me they preferred Royal Purple to Redline. Now I'm hearing the opposite ... hmm .. Well, I'll give it a shot. Even though I just changed this gear oil about 2 months ago, it can't hurt to throw some new stuff in there and see what happens.

So who uses Lucas stabalizer too? I've heard some people swear by the "Redline/Lucas combo"

eh, liking different oils is just preference.

Of course any synthetic is better than any conventional. fing02.gif

I replaced my transmission at ~50k - the previous owner really abused it. Anyways I'm now at ~105k and it still shifts perfectly and it's been boosted since about 80k. Initially I used some Valvoline 75w-90 but after ~10k I found out it was gl-5 and was wrong for the transmission so I switched to the royal purple. no problems so far. Good stuff.

+ 1 for redline mt-90

I had a really bad problem with it grinding going in to 2nd, with the redline it has for the most part eliminated it.

Redline FTW. I used to grind 2nd quite often, but since I put the Redline in, not so much anymore. COuld be that I've gained more experience driving stick over the years. I'm surprised my clutch hasn't blown yet considering all the mileage on it and how I've driven it. It's the clutch I learned to drive stick on.

Actually, theres been a few members on EXD whos grinding got WORSE after switching to RP gear oil. Personally, I'd either grab the fluid from the dealer or order some MT-90.

All the guys I auto cross with use Redline instead of Royal Purple because it is the better for trannys. Socks mentioned a beta II transmission, would that by any chance fit on a beta I? I would assume so and it may be stronger due to Hyundai having to some road time on it to fix problems like this.

^^you would think^^ i think 5th gear is longer on the beta 2, beta 1 trannys have a pin that overheats if u boost in 5th to long or somthing right?(are beta 2 trannys different?)

i found a redline sticker under the drivers seat when i bought my car... only 32k miles at the time tho, worries me now tho cause it sometimes grinds in 2nd and 3rd occasionally for me to (still only if im revving it up and shifting quick, my clutch slips a little too and the pedal catches high; maybe i shold bleed the clutch and adjust the pedal)
other then that tho, it shifts smooth (enough B&M SS rolleyes.gif) and quick cause the clutch catches so high cool.gif
