I'm in the process of looking for an engine for my car, and was wondering what I would have to do to put a 2004 Tib 2.0L into my 2001 Tib? and would my stock 2001 tranny be able to handle it?

There's lots of threads going over the beta swap. Do a search on beta II engines, or beta swaps.

I would heavily recommend doing some more research before just throwing money at a problem. There are some really knowledgeable people around with great advice to give. When I started 2 years ago I was adamant that I wanted to do a delta swap and a bunch of other nonsense, but after listening to these guys its a total 180 and all for the best. If you search the forums all of the questions you are asking have been answered in depth many times before.

so, yes I'm a noob, I'm really lookin forward to learning though, I'm actually going to school for mechanical engineering, but back on track..so the beta II, is just from the years 2002 and up? and beta I is from 2001 and earlier?

Beta2 is in the 2001+ Elantra and 2003+ Tiburon. You will have to use your Beta1 Intake manifold but all the beta 1 sensors should bolt right up. I'm not 100% sure about the crank sensor though. I don't know if the trigger wheels are the same between the 1 and 2. I know the crank sensor itself is different.
Oh and 2004+ beta2 engines are VVT so stay away from those.

I found this engine on E-bay, trying to figure out what exactly I'm looking for, would this be the BetaII?

Or is this it

Ok, so I've done some searching, alot of searching, but before I make any decisions I wanna confirm some stuff.

First, if I use a Beta II I will need to:

Use the beta II block, use my beta I sensors, wiring, fuel rails, injectors, intake manifold, and throttle body. And, my Beta I trans is just fine. The ecu should be fine, but what about the crank sensor and stuff? and is there anything I havn't found that I may need to change, or anything?

Second, if I use a Beta I, obviously all I need to do is switch the blocks.

Third, I have hardly any mechanical experience, my Gpa has a good bit but it's with older cars, and my dad has a bit, would it be possible to do a swap using this forum for info/vids? and if so, what tools would I need?

Both of those are Beta2 MAP engines.

To do the swap you'll need a good socket and crescent wrench set as well as good screwdrivers and a engine hoist. Oh, and lots of free time and patience!

Thank you much! do you happen to know about the crank sensor? I found a forum about it, but the guy said he wasn't sure, and yes, I'm assuming it will take awhile, specially since I'll be going to use this forum and videos as my guide, cause I've never done this before. If we do it ourselves, we may just have someone do it for pre-cautions sake
