My friends father recent had something go wrong with his engine, i dont remember all the details, but he was wondering if we would have any use out of any of the parts from it. it was out of a 2001 kia, ill get the model tomorrow if necessary. I'm told its a 2.4L Hyundai motor. I dont remember hearing much about any 2.4L so there prob isnt a whole lot of compatible parts, but I thought it was worth an ask. Well what do we know?

The 2.4 litre engine was used in the Sonata as the base engine, I think from 1999 to 2005 (might be used in the new Sonata as well). Also used in the Kia Magentis (Optima in US?). It's not a Beta motor though so may not be of much use to folks here unless they want to experiment.

That's what Rallyman just said.

The 2.4L was also found in some Santa Fe's and I THINK the xg350's. I can't remember.

Not much you can do with it.

Because it's a 2001 Kia it must be the old Hyundai2.4, not to be confused with the 2.4 used in the new Sonata, which is a new development... (the 2.4 in the new Sonata is the engine developed by Hyundai for Mitsu and Chrysler also isn't it?)

if its a 2001 2.4 kia motor, it has to be the mitsu 4g64 motor. its the only 2.4 kia used in 2001. the same motor was used in hyundai sonatas, and santa fe's. the motor was used all the way up to the early 06 model year in the kia optimas.

the 'NEW' 2.4 is known as "THE WORLD ENGINE".

Hyundai calls it the Theta, Chrysler calls it the World Engine, and Mitsubishi calls it the IL4 series.

But what is unique about the "theta" is it is part of a multi-national multi-make Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) (Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, Mitsubishi, Hyundai/Kia) and the product was called the "World Engine" there will be 1.8L to 2.4L variations of the same engine.

Cars with the Theta:

2006 Hyundai Sonata (CVVT 2.4L: 162hp/164tq) Verified
2006.5 Kia Optima (CVVT 2.4L: 161hp)
2007 Dodge Caliber (dual VVT 1.8L, 2.0L & 2.4L) (Chrysler Estimates)
2007 Jeep Compass (Dual VVT 2.4L: 172hp)
2007 Jeep Patriot (Dual VVT 2.4L: 172hp)
2007 Mitsubishi Outlander (2.4L)
2007 Mitsubishi EVO X (320hp-400hp) ???

if you notice, he posted right after rallyman wink1.gif

and the xg's never used the 4g64 or theta motor. only motor the xg ever used was the sigma v6 that i know of. it was available in the 3.0 and later on in the 3.5 liter which was also used in the sorento, amanti, sedona, and santa fe's.

i think that covered it at least.

Word. Here's a video where they go over an '05 optima 2.4, it is pretty much identical to the 4G64.
