Question about ethanol in the gas.
I have an Accent. I know the book says it can use up to 10% ethanol. There is talk of gas stations going up to 15%. What will happen to my engine if/when this takes place? I bought the car new and planned to keep it for a long time. Am I going to have to make some kind of changes to the engine because of crap gas?

With that low of a blend it will not hurt your car at all as long as the ECU compensates for the extra fuel needed. E10, E15, E85 are not crap gasses in terms of making things dirty but they will Clean your fuel system causing all of your gunk that is stuck to places to end up in the fuel filter or injectors and things of that nature.
If you have always ran an ethanol blend then this isn't an issue because your system is clean to start with. But you will lose mileage because of the lower energy output of ethanol compared to normal fuel.

The problem isn't the reduced fuel economy, it's the chemical degradation of fueling system components not designed to run with alcohol in them. This is less of a problem on modern cars. Old cars with straight up rubber lines could have a car fire from the lines failing and spilling gas everywhere.
Ethanol from corn is stupid as a gasoline adulterant.

^^ agreed. it actually causes MORE pollution to make ethanol fuel than hauling up and refining the crude oil due to the farming and distillation. so whats the point???
and to the OP: just please PLEASE don't use E85. your car isn't designed to handle that and it won't.

pretty much because most people are blind and/or idiots and think its so GREEEN.
it is green in the sense that its renewable, though.
I am totally fine with the reduced fuel efficiency, if that meant lowering the cost.. if gas was 2$ a gallon and it was all e85, that would be great! oil/gas reserves would then be stretched to last about 6.5X longer that way also

Oil reserves would last longer if we would use nuclear plants instead of oil burning too.
If it takes more energy to produce than you get back out of it, that is the definition of UNsustainable.
