Default 1.8L install help

OK I did something wrong!!!!! I did my research checked out the DIY for the 1.8L CAM install and still something is wrong. I really hope I didn't hurt my poor car... 02.gif Basically what is happening is after the install I started the car and the engine is shaking real bad. I noticed this right away and shut it down, the car may have been running for no longer then 10 seconds. I know somewhere on the old site I read about this but can't find anything on the new one. Help is needed and I really, really hope I didn't hurt anything (at least to much). Man I feel like an A**.

It depends on how rough its idling. The car is going to have to get used to the cam, and its going to idle rough for a while until it adjusts to it. If its really rough, you probably either...

a) Messed up aligning the intake cam with the exhaust cam.
B) Messed up oiling and reattaching the journal bolts on the new intake cam.

ok if you mean aligning the intake cam with the exhaust, as in the timing chain, that is correct! without a doubt. How could I have messed up the journal bolts?

If they were not tightened enough. I believe they are only 10 ft/lbs but if you check on wentech it will tell you for sure. Try reseting your ecu and that will let it learn quicker.

Yeah, make sure they are torqued right. Silly, but did you put oil on the camshaft itself when you installed it? Engine would be rough if you did not smother it with oil. If you oiled it, its all aligned, and you torqued the bolts right, let it idle.

*EDIT*

Could the Journal bolts be to tight. I know everyone says that they snap very easy if over tightened but could them being to tight cause this problem? or what if they are to loose? Maybe my tourque wrench needs to be recalibrated...

What kind of damage are we talking about if something is wrong and I leave it run for a little while (breaking it in)?

Are you getting a CEL, you could just be off on the timing belt and if your to far off you should get a cel, or you could have messed up the cam sensor, did your new cam have that little pin sticking out on the end that goes into the cam sensor, I have heard of a few people that left that out and the car ran like crap.

the timing is correct... I made sure of that. And the cam did have the pin sticking out of it. I did oil the cam before installing it and what not. Here is the DIY I got most of my info from

http://www.rdtiburon.com/forum/showthread....ht=1.8L+install

***EDIT***

I just started my car again and this time it's running fine? Odd but I hope everything stays that way.
