my 1.8 ecu was actually really easy to do, i did it right in the yards parking lot actually, took me maybe 20 minutes. and my 1.8 ecu was alot bigger then the 2.0 i pulled out. but that might of had to do with it being a rev A 1.8 ecu pile..... and i noticeably lost power, but once again, its a rev A

that little write up you put in there was good Strike, I wish i had that when i took my ecu out..it DID fall on my head, shoulda guessed but i didnt ;s

Hows your gas millage now? Ive had my 1.8 in for about a few months now, and im looking at nearly 30, up from the 26ish i was getting after i did my other engine mods, and down from 35ish when all was stock.

monoxide, id guess the power loss is because of the revA. I noticed a bit more pickup after the install (ive got a revB).

I think the 1.8l ecu is the best buy for how cheap it is! Ive ran mine for about a year now with no problems. I forget who's idea was this? but i thanks them for passing the info on

yea, its been said that the rev A 1.8 ecu does more harm then good for performance, but since my OEM ecu refuses to shut off the CEL and run only in limp mode, i was desperate for any other ECU at the time.

omg!!! taking the ECU out for the first time is SUCH A b****. However theres an easy way to modify the case to get it out easier for the next time you ever want it down. I do not quite remmeber it well enough to give step by step instructions but, I removed the inner bracket that holds it, turned the ecu 90degress, and only bolted it up twice to the bolts closer to the clutch, holds it well, easy to get down and access, and well I guess thats it.

Yeah, you have to watch out for it coming down... owned.gif
I'll keep you posted on the fuel mileage, like I've said, I've gone from about 30 to around 34, but I've only tested one tank of gas. I'm doing the 1.8L cam this weekend, so my numbers will be with the both of them in there.

And yes, the ECU is the best engine mod for the money, excluding a cheap CAI knockoff. And yes ^^^, the RevA is no good for us... I could probably replace mine now in about half an hour now that I know how to do it, but it definitely took a good 1.5 hours the first time sad.gif

How do I know if it is a REV A or a REV B ECU? Are there good power gains, what does the ECU actually benefit? And how does it benefit?

yup, the # on the rev A ecu has been posted a few times, at one point, i wrote the # down, and just had it in my wallet.

you really cant see the # to well with the ecu in the car, so you wont know off hand ifs its a rev A or not till after you pull it. or you can just look for the canister in the front behind the bumper (i didnt have that option, car had no front end)
