Default Window Tint Laws

I found this site, it details tinting laws for all 50 states. If you plan to tint yourself you may want to check it out.
Better than asking the guy in walmart (He told me "if it's not street legal we don't sell it"......I just smiled and walked away.)

Window tint laws.

Edit: It's the internet, but I confirmed with a cop today that at least VA is accurate. I'll keep a tab if anyone else confirms their state.

Kansas (KS)
35% on side glass
20% on rear side windows
20% on rear glass

New Jersy (NJ)
Correct

Arazona (AZ)
Correct

Virginia (VA)
Correct

Wasington (WA)
35%

Oregon (OR)
35%

Yup on AZ. It's scary how dark you can be tinted. It makes running drugs in your Impala that much easier haha

Windshield No tint is allowed on the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 70% of light in.

This is PA's Laws but I don't know what that means? How do you know what your tint allows in? (I'm asking because I'm getting my windows tinted Today dark as hell)

It means it can be no darker than 30%. To test window tints mechanics have a gun thingy, similar to speed gun, that can tell what the tint is.

If you go to walmart's car section they sell tint (the boxes have a small sample in the corner), 5% is limo dark, 70% you might do better just turning the defrost off unfortunatly.

If you get a walmart kit you may want to take your car to a tint shop to make sure it's not already tinted. A very few cars come stock with almost unnoticable like 95% supossedly to "reduce glare without affecting vision" but that little bit can leagally put you over the edge.

Yeah, for the most part cops don't care, but it gives them a reason to pull you over if they want one. There are so many laws in VA that even a lot of stock cars can get pulled, like the in-dash GPS has to be 3.5 in or smaller while 7 in screens are common in factory units, or that new car with the hamsters in the advert. has lighted speakers which qualifies as "non-standard & unnessary lighting". And my personal favorite that almost everyone breaks but I almost got ticketed for, nothing can hang more than 1/4 in. below the rear view mirror (so your cardboard pine tree or fuzzy dice can get you pulled).

All of my stock windows were rated at 70% except the windshield. There's a etching on them that says so.
