Unfortunately the "OOOPS!!!!" fluid isn't available here in Germany. Can you tell me the ingredients of it? Does it contain alcohol? It seems to be aggressive enough to remove the paint but leaves the needles unharmed. Normal paint remover (e.g. turpentine) will damage the needles so they are no longer crystal clear.

any common liquid that you see at a supermarket that will take off permanent marker would work, i guess. there is no ingredients list, but i would assume its mostly ethyl alcohol.

You can find OOPS at Walmart for sure. That's where I got mine. You may have to search for it in the hobby section though.

BTW, I have this done and it's one of the nicest looking gauge clusters ever.

Tibby01, remind me to show you pics.

For those who don't have the magic Ooops fluid I have an other possibility: yesterday I was so brave to try my girlfriends nail polish remover which contains alcohol an acetone. It works perfectly.

all needles, layed out, painted, drying labeled

stock needle, paint on bottom no paint on sides, level

I wouldn't recommend that though. i had a set of needles crack because of nail polish. try alcohol based if you must, acitone ate the plastic and made it too brittle.

nice pics.

ive found that it doesnt really matter if you get paint on the sides though. its impossible to see it once everything is installed and it helps to make sure there is enough paint on the "problem" areas of the needle. the edges are raised slightly higher than the middle, so the paint will just pool in the middle and leave the edges transparent. a couple coats eventually fixes this though.

If you get it on the sides, it leaves an area where light dosn't shine through. you get a pretty nice effect with bright LEDs shining out of the needles onto a white face reverse EL gauges set turned off. But you're right, unless you have done a EL white/silver facias mod though you probly won't notice it.
